# App lock and other settings

App lock, Trash, language, reporting currency, alerts and appearance.

Open **Settings** (on phones, **More › Settings**).

## Premium

**Accountant Premium**, at the top, removes ads and unlocks more. See [Premium](/accountant/getting-started/premium.md). **Ad privacy choices** lets you review your ad consent, where the law requires it.

## Security and privacy

### App lock

1. Turn on **App lock** and set a PIN.
2. Optionally turn on **Unlock with fingerprint**.
3. Choose **Lock after leaving app**: **Immediately**, after 5 or 30 seconds, or after 1, 5 or 30 minutes.

Use **Change PIN** to change it. Android handles fingerprint unlock; Accountant never sees your fingerprint.

### Show amounts on widgets

When it's off, home screen and lock screen widgets show •••• instead of balances and totals.

## Owner or business name

Enter it as printed on receipts you issue. It appears on exports and printouts, and scanned receipts issued under this name are recorded as income; all others as expenses.

## Alerts

* **Bank alerts:** turn your bank's texts, emails and app alerts into drafts. See [Drafts from bank alerts](/accountant/transactions/bank-alerts.md).
* **Budget alerts:** *"Notify at 80% and 100% of a budget."* See [Budgets](/accountant/planning/budgets.md#budget-alerts).

## Trash

In **Data and backups**, turn on **Trash** to keep deleted transactions for 30 days, so you can restore them from **Transactions › ⋮ › Trash**. See [Templates, drafts and Trash](/accountant/transactions/templates-drafts-trash.md#trash).

## Reporting currency

The currency for totals and reports. Changing it converts your history using historical exchange rates. See [Multi-currency](/accountant/transactions/multi-currency.md#changing-your-reporting-currency).

## Language

Accountant is available in more than 50 languages. Tap **Language** and choose one, or **System default** to follow your phone. Use **Search language** to find one quickly.

## Appearance

* **Dark mode:** **Light** or **Dark**, or turn on **System default** to follow your phone.
* **Hide bars while scrolling:** hide the top and bottom bars as you scroll, for more space.

## Demo data

**Remove demo data** appears while demo data is present. It removes the sample accounts and transactions and keeps your own records.

## Help, about and contact

* **User manual** and **Privacy Policy**, at the bottom of Settings: open this guide and the policy.
* **Learn more** links elsewhere in the app open the matching page:
  * the **Accounts** screen and the account editor (**⋮ › Learn more**)
  * the bottom of **Transaction shortcuts** (*Not sure which to choose?*)
  * the shared ledger, card and loan setup screens (**⋮ › Learn more**)
  * the AI setup message in AI Accountant
* New users also see **Learn the basics** during setup, and once on Home. See [The basics](/accountant/getting-started/the-basics.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://tribalfs.gitbook.io/accountant/your-data/app-lock-and-settings.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
